May grace and peace be yours in abundance.

In my reading and meditation last week I cam across St. Peter’s first letter to his churches – and through them to The Church. He writes, “May grace and peace be yours in abundance.” (verse 2). This is his prayer of blessing for them: “May grace and peace be yours in abundance.” . . .

Later in the day, at Evening Prayer, I heard in scripture an example of how not to pray.  . . .

Bearing False Witness

Rodney Stark, a prodigious and ground breaking church historian with no deeply held faith, has researched the growth of the early church, the role of friendship groups in affiliation and conversion and much else. Out of the fruit of a lifetime of historical study he has taken aim at the calumnies constantly alleged against the Christian Church, especially the Roman Catholic Church.

Jerusalem & Qumran

On this our last day we visited the Second Temple Model. This 50:1 scale model, covering nearly one acre, allows us to see how all the pieces fit together and how close everything was. Pilate and his soldiers overlooked the Temple compound. The city gate out to Golgotha was just down the street. Have a look here and get a sense of what we have been experiencing.

The Garden of Gethsemane

Today we began the journey of Christ’s passion, visiting several churches that mark the steps Christ took from Maundy Thursday through Good Friday. Tomorrow we walk the true Way of the Cross, celebrate the Eucharist at the place where the crucifixion happened and visit the place of his resurrection. 

Today our most striking visit was to the Mount of Olives . . .
