Cantors

We welcome the following individuals as Parish Cantors for the 2017--2018 season:

Adell Cotter

Adell has served as cantor in various churches in the Naples/Bonita area for the last seventeen years. She hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she minored in voice and majored in Business Administration at Duquesne University.  She continued her studies privately with Li Ping Hseih, a former teacher at Julliard, who Adell calls the real mother of her voice. She continues her study of voice with local teachers.

Married to Timothy J. Cotter, a local attorney for eighteen years.   She has one daughter, Faith “Gigi” Cotter, 12 years old. Broadway is her true passion; a passion she is passing on to her daughter with yearly trips to New York to see as many Broadway shows as possible in one weekend!   Adell is a local realtor with a slogan of “A Note-able Realtor” as a nod to her love of singing and her expertise in real estate.  She is excited about being a member of the music department at St Mary’s.

Luis Mata

Luis Mata has served as a cantor for Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Community in Melbourne, FL for the past four years prior to coming to St. Mary's and joining their team. He started taking voice lessons when he was 17 under the direction of George Kobasko who serves as current music director at Holy Name. After graduating from high school he went to study voice at Eastern Florida State College for 2 years under Mark Baker a retired Metropolitan opera singer. Luis started studying music therapy at Florida Gulf Coast University in 2015 under the direction and guidance of Dr. Micheal Rohrbacher with a focus in voice under Carolann Sanita Vandermeer whom is his current instructor.

Because of his love for the performing and choral arts, Luis has participated in the role of Bob from Menotti's "The Old Maid and the Thief" in FGCU's Opera Workshop performances. He is also a member of FGCU's Chamber and University choirs and with those groups, has performed major works such as Bach's St. Matthew's Passion with Gulf Shore Opera and Vincent Persichetti's Celebrations in collaboration with the FGCU Symphony Orchestra. Luis is a core singer and a section leader for the Symphonic Chorale of Southwest Florida and has performed Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, Faure's Requiem Mass, and others.

Luis is very involved with music program at FGCU. He is the music coordinator for FGCU Catholic Student Organization and Secretary of the American Choral Director's Association FGCU student chapter and is currectly a sales associate at Family Christian Store in the Gulf Coast Town Center in Ft. Myers. When he is not singing or studying, Luis likes to spend his time playing video games and hanging out with his close musical and non-musical friends and family.
