Deaconess Harriet Bedell
Did God find ways to use women for His Kingdom before the Episcopal Church recognized that both sexes of humanity could be called to an ordained ministry? You have only to ask any member of ECW to get an immediate answer in the affirmative. So let me put the question a slightly different way. Were women able to find ways to minister through the Episcopal Church prior to 1976 (when women were first authorized to be ordained) that had they been men there would been no question that the church would have ordained them? Consider the life and ministry of Harriet Bedell (1875-1969) who spent a great portion of her life working in Collier County.
Come hear Fr. Bill tell her story at the Eucharist next week, January 12th-January 13th. Then you be the judge in answering this question.
